So long and thanks for all the fish, 2011
cbsundance: Hey 2011, It was some year. In reviewing 2011, AmeriCorps deserves some credit for making it great. This year I found myself living mostly full-time in central Pennsylvania. I tried to explore it as much as possible. Read More I’m glad we were failed literacy tutors together so we could become friends!

How I spent my Friday night
…or, what I do to stay occupied when Nick has an Organs show that’s far away. Walked the dog. Read the last two Scott Pilgrim comics. Ate a vegan pot pie. Watched A League of Their Own. Got my ass handed to me in Words with Friends by Alyssa. Finally found the caps lock hold on my phone (which I have had for three months). Gave Lexy a bath. Ran out of things to do at 9:46 PM.

Work=Blorft.
“I was a little excited but mostly blorft. “Blorft” is an adjective I just made up that means ‘Completely overwhelmed but proceeding as if everything is fine and reacting to the stress with the torpor of a possum.’ I have been blorft every day for the past seven years.” ― Tina Fey, Bossypants

'Haters' Are Going To Hate This Story by Linton... →
npr: There have always been Haters, but with the ubiquity of the Internet, Haters now gather together, vent and feed on one another, and hone their craftiness — without ever leaving home. In fact, some people are going to hate this story, but that’s OK, because haters gonna hate! Kind of a major down side to the Internet. I really felt when I worked at a newspaper that the hateful comments...

thegirlandherbooks: With his line of scents under the banner I Hate Perfume, Brosius captures certain experiences, like walking in a snowstorm. Among his favorite experiences are hours spent browsing in bookshops or getting lost in a story, so book-inspired scents were a natural step. Year-end inventory.
The best things about my 2011: Transitioning from vegetarianism to veganism. Leaving journalism for nonprofit work. Drinking lots of excellent coffee. Spending my life savings on books and eating the best cupcake of my life in NYC (and getting lost on the subway for about 5 hours with Cassidy). Finally seeing Bright Eyes live! Participating in Bark for Life AND Paws for a Cause with Lexy (we...

Three Lessons of 2011 →
cbsundance: Agnostic, Maybe is one of my favorite blogs, tumblr and non-tumblr alike. Andy Woodworth is a librarian by profession and his posts revolve around library science, but what makes A,M so great is that its not exclusive to the field. For example, his most recent post (Through the link) transcends to everyone in this season of review and resolutions. The three lessons are: #1: Take...

Jon Stewart Crushes Fox News In The 2011 Ratings →
mamaatheist: The reason why Fox News feels so threatened by Jon Stewart is because his program is more popular than anything not named Bill O’Reilly on the network. Not only is Stewart popular, but he is popular with the coveted young demographics that Fox News struggles with. The average Fox News viewer is 65 years old. For years, the Fox News model of success has been powered by viewers...

2012 goals
My resolutions for this year are: Use my Kindle and STOP BUYING REAL BOOKS. I don’t even have room on my bookshelf for any more! The only exception is going to be comic books/graphic novels and books that don’t have an e-reader version (like the rest of Patricia Highsmith’s work, which I really need to get around to reading). Make something from a cookbook at least once a week....

Around four years ago, James Kirchick reported a lengthy story delving into Paul’s worldview. As Kirchick writes, Paul comes out of an intellectual tradition called “paleolibertarianism,” which is a version of libertarianism heavily tinged with far-right cultural views. The gist is that Paul… It’s true that the media doesn’t bother to do much research for those who are...

How 'Modest Is Hottest' Is Hurting Christian Women →
feministdisney: nishnish: “Making modesty sexy is not the solution we need. Instead, the church needs to overhaul its theology of the female body. Women continue to be associated with their bodies in ways that men are not. And, as a result of this unique association, women’s identities are also uniquely tied to their bodies in a manner that men’s identities are not.” an interesting read I...

Don’t Support Your Local Bookseller →
bibliofeminista: Compared with online retailers, bookstores present a frustrating consumer experience. Amazon suggests books based on others you’ve...
